VT 251 Club

 

I love a challenge, I love a goal! And even more than that, I love the feeling of acchievement when reaching the goal!

 

When I first arrived to Vermont in 2009 to the small town of Ludlow, which is home to the Okemo Mountain Resort, my first goal was to snowboard every single trail on the mountain. Thankfully that winter was good in terms of snowcover and by the height of the season the mountain was 100% open. Every time I ventured out on my board I planned the runs I would make to cover trails I had not yet been on. Admittedly, I was not the most skilled snowboarder at that point, and on some trails I spent more time on my bottom than actually on the board, but that still counted - trail covered!

 

In recent years, I have been searching for a new goal. It was the quest of a friend, to visit every state of the US that gave me an idea - how about it, if on my continued exploration of the state of Vermont, I went and visited every single town in the state?! And so it was decided, a new goal was set!

 

What I only realized a little later, after a conversation with my in laws, was that there's a club for people with the same goal - it is called the 251 Club of Vermont. Of course I joined immediately and got my swag to prove it. The name might suggest that Vermont has 251 town, which was true up until 2022 when Essex Junction became a city and the total number of municipalities became 252. But the club retained the name it has had since its founding in 1954. 

 

For the sake of simplicity the word 'town' really lumps together three categories of municipalities: cities (10), towns (237) and unorganized towns (3), making a total of 252. There are also 3 gores and 1 grant. What are those?, you may wonder? When I find an educated answer to it, I will share it here!

 

While exploring Vermont to acchieve this latest goal I also hope to share a little post about every town and city I visit. So stay tuned, learn and journey with me! Maybe we will visit some unique real estate while we are at it!
